Kelly Robertson, CEO of 9Proof Americas, spoke on virtual security last night at VMware in Palo Alto during the monthly meeting of the SDForum Cloud Services SIG. He explained a few special security issues that should be considered when using virtualization technology. An issue that struck me, which I had not much thought about previously, was what Robertson called an ephemeral virtual sprawl, which refers to the many virtual machines that get fired up and down and that do not quite fit into the traditional approaches and lines of authority for maintaining security in IT departments.
